May is one of the best months in the entire park system. Weather warms across the lower 48, high-elevation roads start opening, and summer crowds haven't fully arrived. It's the last good window for desert parks before the heat, and the first good window for mountain parks. Waterfalls from snowmelt are at their peak in Yosemite and the Cascades.
