Monthly Guide
Best National Parks in September
September is the sleeper month. Summer crowds thin dramatically after Labor Day while weather stays warm in most parks. Mountain parks are spectacular with early fall color and cooling temperatures. Desert parks are still too hot. Alaska's season is ending fast. For the lower 48, this is arguably the best overall month to visit.
