Hike Cadillac North Ridge Trail
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The trail is almost entirely exposed granite. When wet, these slabs turn slick enough to send you sliding — rain, morning dew, and fog all qualify. Wear shoes with real traction, not trail runners with worn-out soles.
There is zero shade on this route. On summer days, the sun reflects off bare rock and amplifies the heat. Carry more water than you think you need, wear sun protection, and know that what feels like a gentle breeze at the trailhead disappears once you're on the lee side of the ridge.

Pro Tips
If you're chasing sunrise from the summit, start hiking in the dark — figure 60 to 90 minutes up depending on your pace, and bring a headlamp with fresh batteries. The granite slabs are unforgiving in low light, and a twisted ankle at 4 AM is nobody's idea of a good morning.
Skip the summit parking lot circus entirely. Most visitors drive up Cadillac Summit Road, so hiking the North Ridge means you'll share the trail with far fewer people than you'll find milling around the top. You earn the view and dodge the crowds in one move.
The open granite ledges about two-thirds of the way up make for better photography than the crowded summit. You get clean sightlines to Frenchman Bay without other hikers wandering into your frame, and the morning light rakes across the rock beautifully.
