Hike Gorge Path
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
Skip this trail after rain or heavy morning dew. The shaded granite sections stay wet for hours longer than exposed trails, and several steep rock faces become genuinely treacherous when slippery.
Some sections involve near-vertical granite steps without handrails — hikers with knee issues or vertigo should consider the less technical Cadillac North Ridge Trail instead.

Pro Tips
Start from the Route 3 trailhead near Sieur de Monts rather than the Park Loop Road side — the grade is more gradual heading uphill and you can grab the Island Explorer bus back if your legs object to the return trip.
Wear boots with aggressive tread, not trail runners. The granite steps get slick even on dry days from seeping groundwater, and a rolled ankle in the gorge means an awkward carry-out.
If you reach the top and still have gas in the tank, hang a right toward the Cadillac South Ridge Trail — the open ledge views of Frenchman Bay from there are some of the best on the island, and adding it only tacks on about a mile.
