Hike Jesup Path and Hemlock Path Loop
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The wooden boardwalk sections become slick after rain and in freezing temperatures — the trail is listed as all-season, but ice on the boards in winter warrants slow, deliberate footing and can be genuinely hazardous for wheelchair users or anyone unsteady on their feet.
Trail Details
- 1
The Island Explorer's Acadia Woods route stops near Sieur de Monts, making this one of the few Acadia hikes where you can leave the car entirely — useful since the parking area at Sieur de Monts fills quickly on summer mornings.
- 2
Walk the boardwalk section slowly and read the interpretive signs; they cover the ecology of the hemlock-birch transition zone and add real context to what you're seeing — most people speed past them.
- 3
The Great Meadow is your best shot at photographing Dorr Mountain without crowds or visual clutter — position yourself near the meadow's eastern edge in morning light for a clean granite-and-sky frame with the birch stand in the foreground.
