What to Expect

This is one of the best bang-for-your-buck hikes in the entire national park system. The trail leaves from Devils Garden trailhead and winds through a corridor of towering sandstone fins — massive slabs of red rock that rise like the pages of a half-open book on either side of you. The path is mostly flat and well-maintained, with a few sandy stretches and some modest rock steps that keep things interesting without breaking a sweat. After less than a mile, you round a bend and there it is: Landscape Arch, a impossibly thin ribbon of stone stretching 306 feet across the sky. It looks like it shouldn't exist, like gravity forgot about it. The whole thing takes under an hour, making it perfect for families, anyone short on time, or hikers who want a genuine jaw-drop moment without earning it the hard way.

Safety Advisory

Stay behind the viewing barriers at Landscape Arch. A massive slab fell from the arch in 1991, and walking beneath it has been prohibited since — the rockfall scars on the ground make it clear why.

There is almost zero shade on this trail. In summer, ground temperatures can exceed 130 degrees and the exposed sandstone radiates heat like an oven. Carry more water than you think you need for a one-mile walk.

Pro Tips

Trail Tip

Arrive before 8 AM or after 5 PM in peak season (March through October) — Devils Garden parking lot is the first in the park to fill, often by 9 AM, and the timed entry reservation system won't save you a parking spot here.

Trail Tip

This trail is the gateway to the full Devils Garden loop, so if you're feeling ambitious after seeing Landscape Arch, keep going toward Partition and Navajo Arches — the crowds thin dramatically past the main attraction.

Trail Tip

The best photos of Landscape Arch come in the morning when the sun lights up the underside of the span from the east. By afternoon the arch is backlit and harder to photograph without blowing out the sky.
