What to Expect

Think of these as the bonus tracks on an already great album. You're walking the Devils Garden trail toward Landscape Arch when two short spur paths branch off to Pine Tree Arch and Tunnel Arch — each just a few minutes of easy walking through sandy desert terrain dotted with juniper and pinyon pine. Pine Tree Arch earns its name from the stubborn trees growing right at its base, framing the opening in a way that feels almost landscaped. Tunnel Arch sits in a massive fin wall, a window punched through sandstone that catches light beautifully in the morning. The spurs are mostly flat with a bit of slickrock scrambling, shaded in spots by the towering fins. Because most hikers are laser-focused on Landscape Arch, you'll often have these two formations nearly to yourself. Perfect for families, photographers, or anyone who likes finding the quiet corners of a crowded park.

Safety Advisory

The sandy spur trails can be vague in spots where they cross slickrock — look for small cairns to stay on route, especially on the Tunnel Arch spur where a wrong turn puts you scrambling up loose terrain.

Summer surface temperatures on exposed sandstone regularly exceed what bare skin can handle — if you wouldn't walk on it barefoot, don't let kids sit on it.

Pro Tips

Trail Tip

Hit these spurs on your way TO Landscape Arch, not on the return — by mid-morning the parking lot at Devils Garden fills completely, and you'll be too tired and hot to appreciate them on the way back.

Trail Tip

Pine Tree Arch has a shallow alcove underneath that provides genuine shade — on a scorching summer day, it's one of the few natural rest stops in Devils Garden worth knowing about.

Trail Tip

Shoot Pine Tree Arch from directly underneath looking up through the opening for a dramatic composition that most visitors miss — the trees frame the sky perfectly and the scale of the arch becomes obvious.
