North Vista Trail (to Green Mountain)
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The North Rim is above 7,500 feet and Green Mountain pushes higher — visitors arriving from lower elevations may feel the altitude on the climb. Pace yourself and watch for headache or dizziness.
Afternoon thunderstorms build fast from June through September. The exposed summit is the worst place to be when lightning rolls in — plan to be off the top by early afternoon.

Pro Tips
Start early from the North Rim Campground area — the ranger station trailhead has limited parking and the North Rim road closes seasonally, so confirm road status before driving out.
Carry at least two liters per person. There is zero water on this trail and the exposed upper sections bake in afternoon sun. A sun hat and electrolytes are not optional in midsummer.
The summit clearing offers 360-degree views, but the best photo angle is from the southeast edge looking back toward the canyon and the Painted Wall — morning light rakes across the canyon walls and separates the layers beautifully.
