The Quick Take

Sunset Campground is Bryce Canyon's second-fiddle option, and that's exactly why some campers prefer it. Sitting just west of Sunset Point with nearly a hundred sites spread across three loops, it's slightly less frantic than North Campground while still keeping you within easy striking distance of the amphitheater's famous hoodoos. The loop system creates a natural sorting hat: RVers get funneled into Loop A, while tent campers claim the quieter B and C loops. The trade-off is real though -- no flush toilets, no showers, and zero hookups mean you're roughing it more than the name suggests. The shuttle stop at the entrance is a genuine lifesaver during peak summer when parking at the rim viewpoints becomes a blood sport. Choose Sunset if you're a tent camper who wants to be close to the action but prefers a campground that doesn't feel like a parking lot.

Pro Tips

Camping Tip

Loop C sites on the outer edge offer the most tree cover and spacing from neighbors. Book these first when reservations open -- they go fast because experienced Bryce campers know they're the sweet spots in the whole campground.

Camping Tip

Sunset Point is a five-minute walk from camp, which means you can catch the sunrise lighting up the hoodoos before most day-trippers even leave Tropic. The Navajo Loop Trail drops right from the rim there -- do it early morning when the canyon floor is still cool and the crowds are thin.

Camping Tip

No showers here and no showers anywhere in the campground, but the General Store near the lodge has coin-operated laundry. For an actual shower, Ruby's Inn just outside the park entrance sells shower access. Bring a solar shower bag if you want to stay self-sufficient.
