Rim Overlook
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The rim has no railings or barriers — the cliff drops hundreds of feet with nothing between you and the canyon floor. Keep well back from edges, especially in wind.
There is zero shade on this entire route and no water sources. In summer temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees on exposed rock — carry at least two liters per person and cover your head.

Pro Tips
Start early morning — the trail faces east and the first mile becomes a solar oven by mid-morning. A 7am start in summer means you summit in shade and descend before the worst heat.
The trailhead shares parking with Hickman Bridge, which is far more popular. Arrive before 9am or you may end up walking the road shoulder to find a spot.
Continue past the Rim Overlook another half-mile to Navajo Knobs for an even more dramatic 360-degree panorama — it adds moderate effort but doubles the reward. Most hikers turn around too soon.
