This is about as easy as hiking gets — a paved stroll shorter than a trip through most grocery stores. You'll walk along a smooth, level walkway that hugs the rim of Walnut Canyon, with the Chihuahuan Desert stretching out below in layers of tan, rust, and pale green. The canyon itself is the star: a deep gash carved through limestone, with juniper and desert scrub clinging to its walls. At the overlook, you get a sweeping view down into the canyon that hints at the geological drama happening underground in the caverns below.
