What to Expect
Pine Grove Trail is a quiet, flat loop through a dense canopy of hemlock and pine near the Ledges area — one of Cuyahoga Valley's most atmospheric corners. The dirt path stays shaded almost the entire way, making it feel more like a walk through a cathedral forest than a hike. With barely any elevation change, the effort here is negligible; you're here for the mood, not the workout. The understory shifts with the seasons — spring brings trillium and wild geranium, fall turns the forest floor amber and rust. Because it sits close to the more popular Ledges Trail, you get the same gorgeous sandstone-edged woodland setting without the weekend crowds. This is the trail you recommend to a friend visiting from out of town who wants to feel like they've been somewhere without earning it the hard way. Perfect for families with young kids, anyone looking for a contemplative solo walk, or visitors who want to ease into the park.
Safety Advisory
The dirt surface turns slick and muddy after rain — trail shoes with any grip will serve you better than road sneakers, especially in spring when the ground stays saturated for days.

Trailhead Pine Grove Trail
- 1
Pair this with the adjacent Ledges Trail for a longer outing — the two trails connect easily, and the sandstone outcroppings on Ledges are worth the extra mile.
- 2
The Kendall Park Road lot fills up fast on fall weekends; arrive before 9am or plan for a short walk from overflow parking along Truxell Road.
- 3
The densest hemlock canopy on the loop is on the northern section — if you're after moody forest photos, go counterclockwise so you hit that stretch in morning light.
