Texas Springs Campground
The Quick Take
Texas Springs sits in the hills just above Furnace Creek, which means you get the convenience of Death Valley's main hub — gas, the visitor center, the general store at the Ranch — without actually sleeping in a parking lot. The elevation bump gives you surprisingly decent views across the valley floor, and scattered tamarisk trees offer patches of shade that feel like small miracles in this landscape. The trade-off is clear: no generators allowed and no flush toilets, so you're roughing it more than at neighboring Furnace Creek Campground. But that generator ban is exactly what makes this place worth choosing — evenings here are genuinely quiet. At twenty dollars a night for a first-come, first-served site, it's one of the better deals in the park. This is the campground for people who want to be close to everything but still feel like they're actually camping.

Pro Tips
The upper loop sites have better elevation and wider views of the valley floor, but they fill last because people grab the first open site they see near the entrance. Drive the whole campground before committing — arriving by early afternoon on a weekday between November and February gives you the best selection.
You're a five-minute drive from the Furnace Creek Ranch, which has a general store, restaurant, and — critically — showers you can pay to use. The Harmony Borax Works trailhead and the Badwater Basin road are both less than fifteen minutes away, making this an ideal base camp for hitting the park's greatest hits.
No firewood gathering is allowed anywhere in the park, and there's no camp store here, so buy bundled firewood at the Ranch before you set up. Nights drop into the forties and fifties even during peak season, and a fire in the provided grate is the difference between a good evening and retreating to your sleeping bag at seven o'clock.
