Igloo Creek
The Quick Take
Igloo Creek is Denali's most intimate camping experience — just seven tent sites tucked into the subarctic wilderness at mile 35 of the Park Road, accessible only by camper bus. There are no RVs, no generators, no camp store, and no running water. What you get instead is the kind of silence that makes your ears ring and some of the best wildlife corridors in the park, with Dall sheep regularly visible on the surrounding ridgelines. The trade-off is real: you are hauling everything in on the bus and roughing it without flush toilets or potable water. But for backpackers who want a base camp without the backcountry permit complexity, or experienced campers who find Riley Creek too much like a parking lot, Igloo Creek is the payoff for doing your homework. Choose this if you came to Denali to actually feel like you are in Alaska.

Pro Tips
Book your camper bus ticket at the same time you reserve your campsite — they sell separately, and snagging a site without bus access is an expensive mistake. The bus schedule dictates your entire trip rhythm, so plan meals and gear around fixed pickup times.
Igloo Creek sits in prime Dall sheep and grizzly territory. Bring binoculars and glass the slopes of Igloo Mountain and Cathedral Mountain right from camp — early morning and late evening light gives you the best viewing without hiking a single mile.
Pack at least two gallons of water per person per day since there is no potable source at the campground. A gravity filter and collapsible water containers are worth the weight. Also bring a camp stove you trust — no firewood is sold or available, and campfires are not the norm here.
