Tucked into dense forest just off Camas Road, it trades the waterfront drama of Apgar for something arguably better: shade, privacy, and sites where you can't see your neighbor's camp stove. A handful of spots offer filtered glimpses of Lake McDonald through the trees, which is the kind of understated reward Glacier does well. The trade-off is real, though — no flush toilets, no showers, no cell service, and no electrical hookups mean this is camping, not glamping. Apgar Village is a quick drive for anything you forgot. Choose Fish Creek if you want a guaranteed site in peak season without sacrificing the feeling that you're actually in the woods.

Reservations open six months in advance and July slots vanish within hours. Set a calendar reminder for the exact booking window and have your preferred dates loaded before the clock strikes. Weekday arrivals are significantly easier to snag than Friday check-ins.
The Camas Road trailhead is practically at the campground entrance — it's one of the least-crowded access points on the west side. Use it to reach Howe Lake for a mellow morning paddle or Rogers Lake for a solitary day hike while everyone else is stuck in the Going-to-the-Sun Road traffic.
No firewood sales on site and gathering is restricted, so buy bundles at the Apgar general store before you drive in. Bear lockers are provided at every site, but bring extra dry bags anyway — raccoons at Fish Creek are seasoned professionals and lockers fill up fast if you're sharing with neighbors.
