Many Glacier Campground
The Quick Take
Many Glacier is the crown jewel of Glacier camping, and everyone knows it. Tucked into the park's northeast corner at the end of a dead-end road, this medium-sized campground puts you at the trailhead for some of the most spectacular day hikes in the northern Rockies — Grinnell Glacier, Iceberg Lake, and Cracker Lake are all right here. The trade-off is real: no showers, no hookups, no cell service, and a strict 35-foot RV limit that keeps out the big rigs. Sites are nestled in trees but not exactly private. Wildlife sightings are almost guaranteed — moose wander through camp, and grizzlies are regular neighbors, which is why every site has a food locker. Choose Many Glacier if hiking is the entire point of your trip and you can live without creature comforts.

Pro Tips
Reservations open six months in advance on Recreation.gov and sell out within minutes for peak July and August dates. Set a calendar reminder, have your account pre-loaded, and be ready to click at 10 AM Eastern on the dot. Midweek arrivals in early September are your best shot at a last-minute booking.
Grinnell Glacier trailhead is a short walk from camp — start before 7 AM to beat the crowds and afternoon thunderstorms. The boat shuttle across Swiftcurrent and Josephine Lakes shaves off nearly four miles round trip and is worth every dollar.
Stock up on groceries in Kalispell or Whitefish before driving in. The camp store near Swiftcurrent Motor Inn carries basics but the selection is thin and prices are steep. Bring bear spray — this is one of the highest grizzly-density areas in the lower 48, and rangers are not exaggerating when they tell you to keep a clean camp.
