The Quick Take

Two Medicine is Glacier's quiet side — the campground that repeat visitors guard like a secret. Tucked into the southeast corner of the park, it sits at the foot of Two Medicine Lake in a valley that most tourists skip entirely on their way to Logan Pass. The sites are well-shaded and spaced generously enough that you won't hear your neighbor's podcast. You get a camp store and potable water but no showers or flush toilets, which is exactly the filter that keeps the crowds manageable. The boat tours across Two Medicine Lake are genuinely spectacular, and the hiking here — Dawson Pass, Pitamakan Loop, the easy stroll to Running Eagle Falls — rivals anything on the Going-to-the-Sun Road corridor with a fraction of the foot traffic. Choose Two Medicine if you want real Glacier backcountry atmosphere without actually sleeping in the backcountry.

Pro Tips

Camping Tip

All sites require advance reservations now, so book the moment your window opens on Recreation.gov. Mid-week arrivals in early September are your best shot at snagging a spot without months of planning — the crowds thin dramatically after Labor Day while the weather often holds.

Camping Tip

Take the boat shuttle across Two Medicine Lake and hike to Twin Falls or Upper Two Medicine Lake. It cuts miles off the approach and the boat ride itself is worth the ticket price. The Pitamakan-Dawson Loop is one of Glacier's finest day hikes and starts right from the campground.

Camping Tip

No showers means you'll want biodegradable wipes and a solar shower bag. The camp store covers basics but stock up on firewood and ice in East Glacier before driving in — neither is sold at the campground. Bear spray is non-negotiable here; grizzlies are active throughout the valley.
