What to Expect

This is one of the easiest payoffs in all of Glacier — a quick jaunt from the Scenic Point trailhead that drops you at a thundering waterfall in less time than it takes to find parking at Logan Pass. The trail descends through open meadow and scattered conifers along Appistoki Creek, losing a couple hundred feet of elevation on the way down (which means, yes, you're climbing back up on the return). The path is well-worn and straightforward, threading through wildflower-dotted grassland with the hulking peaks of the Two Medicine Valley framing every direction. At trail's end, Appistoki Falls crashes down a dark rock face into a narrow gorge — surprisingly dramatic for such a short walk. This is the perfect trail for families with young kids, anyone arriving late in the day who wants a quick Glacier fix, or hikers warming up before tackling the grueling Scenic Point climb from the same parking area.

Safety Advisory

The rocks near the base of the falls stay slick with spray year-round. Stay behind the informal viewing area rather than scrambling closer — the drop into the gorge is abrupt and unforgiving.

This is grizzly bear country. Make noise on the trail, carry bear spray, and keep it accessible — not buried in your pack.

Pro Tips

Trail Tip

Pair this with the Scenic Point trail — knock out Appistoki Falls first as a warmup, then tackle the switchbacks up to Scenic Point while your legs are fresh. Same trailhead, two completely different experiences.

Trail Tip

The Two Medicine area is one of Glacier's least-visited zones, so you can often find easy parking here even when the Going-to-the-Sun Road corridor is a circus. Arrive by mid-morning in peak season and you'll likely have the falls nearly to yourself.

Trail Tip

The falls photograph best in morning light when the sun illuminates the rock face behind the cascade. Bring a wide-angle lens — the gorge is tight and you can't back up much from the viewing area.
