Aster Park
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
This is grizzly country — carry bear spray, make noise on the trail, and know how to use both. The Two Medicine valley has active bear populations, especially in late summer when huckleberries ripen.
The upper portion of the trail crosses exposed terrain with no shade. On hot afternoons, the south-facing slopes radiate heat. Start before 10 AM or after 4 PM if hiking in midsummer.

Pro Tips
Start early to snag parking at South Shore Trailhead — the Two Medicine area is less mobbed than Going-to-the-Sun Road, but the small lot still fills by mid-morning in July and August.
This trail connects to the Aster Falls spur about a half mile in. Budget an extra 20 minutes to detour down to the falls — it's a quick side trip that most people skip, and the cascade is worth the minor extra effort.
Bring a windbreaker even on sunny days. The overlook at Aster Park sits exposed above the valley and catches every gust funneling through Two Medicine. What feels warm in the trees can turn chilly fast once you're in the open.
