Oldman Lake
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
This is prime grizzly bear country. Carry bear spray accessible on your hip, make noise on blind corners, and be especially alert near the lake where bears forage in the meadows.
The Two Medicine area is exposed to fast-moving afternoon thunderstorms — check the forecast before you go and plan to be off any ridgeline sections by early afternoon.
The trail can hold snowpack well into July in heavy snow years, making route-finding tricky on the upper sections. Check current trail conditions with the ranger station before heading out.

Pro Tips
Start early from the North Shore Trailhead — the Two Medicine area parking fills up by mid-morning in July and August, and you'll want every hour of daylight for this one.
There's no reliable water source for the first few miles of climbing, so carry at least two liters from the trailhead and plan to filter at the lake before heading back.
The meadows surrounding Oldman Lake explode with beargrass and paintbrush in mid-July — time your visit for peak bloom and you'll get one of the best wildflower displays in the Two Medicine region.
