What to Expect

This is the North Rim's best-kept secret for people who want Grand Canyon views without Grand Canyon effort. The loop starts from the Roosevelt Point parking area and wanders through a quiet ponderosa and pinyon woodland — dappled shade, soft dirt underfoot, and almost nobody around. Within minutes, the trees thin out and the canyon opens up in front of you with a dramatic view of the confluence where the Little Colorado River meets the main gorge. Benches are placed at the overlook, which tells you everything about the vibe: this is a trail for sitting and absorbing, not for crushing miles. The whole thing takes about ten minutes to walk, but you'll want to linger longer. Perfect for anyone who finds Bright Angel too crowded, families with small kids, or hikers who just finished a punishing North Rim route and want to end the day with something gentle and gorgeous.

Safety Advisory

The overlook area has exposed cliff edges without guardrails in some spots — keep children close and watch your footing near the rim, especially if the ground is wet or icy.

Pro Tips

Trail Tip

Pair this with the Cape Royal Drive — Roosevelt Point is one of several pulloffs along the road, and combining it with Cape Royal and Walhalla Overlook makes for a full afternoon of easy walking and world-class views.

Trail Tip

Bring binoculars. The confluence of the Little Colorado is visible from the overlook, and on clear days you can trace side canyons deep into the geology. It rewards close looking more than most viewpoints.

Trail Tip

Visit in the late afternoon when the light turns the canyon walls orange and gold. Most day-trippers hit this stop mid-morning on their way to Cape Royal, so you'll likely have the benches to yourself by 4 PM.
