Signal Mountain Campground
The Quick Take
Signal Mountain is Grand Teton's sweet spot between convenience and scenery. Perched above Jackson Lake with Mount Moran filling the horizon, it delivers the kind of views that other campgrounds make you hike for. The surrounding lodgepole pine forest keeps sites reasonably private, and the adjacent lodge complex means you can grab a hot meal, do laundry, or rent a kayak without moving your car. The trade-off is real, though: no flush toilets or showers at the campground itself (you'll pay extra at the lodge), no electrical hookups, and the 30-foot RV limit shuts out bigger rigs. At the higher end of the park's fee scale, you're paying for location more than luxury. This is the campground for people who want Jackson Lake at their doorstep without sacrificing access to the rest of the park — especially couples or small families who value a central base camp over backcountry solitude.

Pro Tips
Sites along the lake's edge go first and for good reason — request a lakeside site when booking, or if you're arriving without a reservation, get to the campground before 10 AM during July and August. The campground regularly fills before noon in peak season, and the lake-adjacent spots disappear hours before that.
Signal Mountain Summit Road starts right at the lodge junction. Drive or bike the five miles to the top for one of the best sunset viewpoints in the park — you'll see the full Teton Range reflected in Jackson Lake, and it's uncrowded compared to the usual overlooks on the main road.
There are no showers at the campground, but the lodge offers pay showers and laundry. Stock up on firewood at the camp store rather than hauling it in — the lodgepole pine around camp is standing dead but collecting it is prohibited. Bear boxes are at every site, so you can skip lugging your own bear canister, but keep everything scented locked up even during the day.
