Hike Schoolhouse Gap Trail
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
Watch your step after rain — horse traffic can churn the dirt roadbed into slick, ankle-deep mud in low-lying sections.
Black bears are active along this corridor, especially in berry season; carry bear spray and know how to use it, even on an easy trail.

Pro Tips
Park at the Laurel Creek Road trailhead early on spring weekends — by mid-morning the small lot fills up and you'll be hunting for shoulder space along the road.
Time your visit for mid-to-late April for peak wildflower displays; bring a macro lens or even a phone with macro mode, because the trillium carpets along the first mile are genuinely stunning.
Use this trail as a connector to the longer Turkeypen Ridge loop if you want more mileage — turning a mellow out-and-back into a proper half-day circuit that most visitors never discover.
