There's potable water and cell service, but that's where the amenities list ends -- no showers, no flush toilets, no fires of any kind. The corral handles up to ten animals, making it functional rather than scenic. At twenty dollars a night for a reservation-only site, it's a fair deal if you need a legal place to stage your horses before hitting the backcountry trails. Pro Tips
Reservations open exactly two months before your visit date, and since this is the only east-side horse facility in the park, book the moment the window opens -- especially during spring and fall when temperatures are manageable for both riders and animals.
The Frijole Ranch History Museum is a short walk down the same access road and worth a visit between rides. The spring at Frijole Ranch also attracts wildlife, so keep your eyes open at dawn and dusk for mule deer and the occasional elk.
Pack a camping stove and all your cooking fuel -- no wood fires, no charcoal, no propane firepits are allowed anywhere in the park. Bring extra water containers for your horses beyond what the potable spigot provides, as ten animals can drain resources quickly on hot days.
