What to Expect
The Grand Promenade is less a hike and more a civilized stroll above one of America's most unusual national parks — a half-mile brick-paved walkway that hugs the hillside behind Bathhouse Row like a balcony seat over downtown Hot Springs. You'll walk beneath a canopy of hardwoods, passing elegant stone balustrades and overlooks that frame the town below. The path connects to nearly every trail on Hot Springs Mountain, making it the grand central station of the park's trail network. The surface is smooth and wide enough for wheelchairs and strollers, with a gentle hundred-foot elevation change that barely registers in your legs. Benches dot the route for sitting and soaking in the atmosphere — literally, since thermal springs seep from the hillside in spots. This trail is perfect for anyone who wants a taste of the park without breaking a sweat, or hikers plotting which North Mountain trail to tackle next.

Pro Tips
Trail Tip
Enter via Stephen's Balustrade off Central Avenue for the most dramatic approach — the grand staircase feels like stepping into a different era and puts you right in the middle of the Promenade.
Trail Tip
Use this trail as your launching pad: study the junction signs where Oertel, Peak, and Tufa Terrace trails branch off, then pick your adventure based on how much elevation you're in the mood for.
Trail Tip
Walk the Promenade in the early evening when the bathhouses below are lit up and the hillside cools down — the thermal springs along the path steam more visibly in cooler air, which makes for striking photos.
