Tufa Terrace Trail
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The paved surface near the Hot Water Cascade can be slick from mineral deposits and moisture — watch your footing, especially in leather-soled shoes or sandals.
The thermal water is genuinely hot. Keep hands and feet out of the cascade and any pooled water along the trail, and keep a close eye on kids and pets near the thermal features.

Pro Tips
Hit this trail early in the morning during cooler months — the contrast between the warm cascade water and cold air creates dramatic steam that makes the whole scene feel like a natural spa commercial.
Combine this with the Grand Promenade for a longer loop that connects several thermal features without repeating any ground — start at Arlington Lawn, take Tufa Terrace down, then follow the Promenade back.
Look closely at the tufa formations near the cascade for bright green algae streaks — these thermophilic organisms thrive in the warm water and create some of the most photogenic color contrasts on the trail, especially in flat overcast light.
