Little Todd Campground

Little Todd is one of Isle Royale's most remote and least-visited backcountry camps, tucked along the north shore where the Minong Ridge Trail passes through some of the island's wildest terrain. With only a handful of shelters, this is not a campground you stumble into — you earn it through miles of rugged ridgeline hiking or a serious paddle along Lake Superior's exposed northern coast. There are no amenities here: no potable water, no maintained facilities, nothing between you and the wilderness. The two-night stay limit during peak season keeps things moving, but honestly, crowds are not a concern at Little Todd. The north shore of Isle Royale sees a fraction of the foot traffic that the Greenstone Ridge corridor pulls, and the Minong Ridge Trail is significantly more demanding. Choose Little Todd if you want the kind of solitude that makes you realize you haven't heard another human voice in two days.

Pro Tips
The Minong Ridge Trail is notoriously rough and poorly maintained compared to the Greenstone Ridge — expect blowdowns, overgrown sections, and scrambles. Bring long pants and gaiters even in summer, and budget more time per mile than you would on Isle Royale's main corridor.
Water from Lake Superior or nearby inland sources must be filtered or treated. Bring a reliable pump filter rather than relying solely on chemical treatment, as the cold lake water can slow chemical purification times significantly.
Little Todd works well as a layover day camp for Minong Ridge thru-hikers. Use the extra day to fish nearby inland streams — no license needed, barbless hooks and artificial lures only — or just recover your legs before the next punishing ridge section.
