Todd Harbor Campground
The Quick Take
Todd Harbor is one of Isle Royale's most rewarding backcountry campgrounds precisely because it demands effort to reach. Tucked along the north shore and accessed via the notoriously rugged Minong Ridge Trail, this small cluster of sites feels genuinely remote in a way that even other Isle Royale campgrounds cannot match. The harbor itself is a quiet inlet where moose sightings are practically routine at dawn. With a single shelter and a handful of tent sites, capacity stays tiny, which means you will likely share the place with no more than a few other parties — if anyone at all. There is no potable water and no real amenities beyond food lockers, so you are fully self-sufficient or you are not staying here. This is the campground for experienced backpackers who consider the Minong Ridge a feature, not a deterrent, and who want one of the most peaceful nights of sleep available in the entire national park system.

Pro Tips
The Minong Ridge Trail approach from the east is significantly more demanding than coming from the west via Little Todd Harbor — if you are making Todd Harbor a stop on a longer traverse, plan your direction accordingly and budget extra time for the rocky, root-tangled sections.
The dock has only about two feet of depth under normal conditions, so if you are arriving by canoe or kayak, time your approach for calmer weather — Lake Superior swells can make the shallow harbor tricky and the exposed north shore crossing genuinely dangerous.
Pack a water filter and fill up at the harbor or nearby streams, because there is zero potable water here. Bring more fuel than you think you need — the three-night stay limit during peak season means you may be here a while, and firewood gathering is limited to dead-and-down only in a common fire ring.
