Lost Creek Group Campground
The Quick Take
Lost Creek is Lassen's dedicated group campground, and it plays that role well -- eight reservable sites tucked along the main park road about five miles south of the Manzanita Lake hub. The setup is bare-bones by design: you get potable water and bear-proof food lockers, but forget about showers, flush toilets, or a camp store. That austerity is actually a feature for groups who want to spread out without neighbors complaining about your late-night card games. The location splits the difference between Manzanita Lake's amenities and Summit Lake's alpine scenery, giving you easy access to both without committing to either. The flat-rate group pricing makes it surprisingly economical when you divide the cost across a dozen or more campers. Book this if you're organizing a scout troop, family reunion, or friend group that wants a base camp without the fuss of reserving a cluster of individual sites.

Pro Tips
Group sites at Lassen fill fast once the reservation window opens -- mark your calendar for the earliest available booking date on Recreation.gov and have your group size and dates locked in beforehand. Weekends in July and August are the first to disappear.
You're a short drive from Devastated Area, one of the park's best easy interpretive walks, and close enough to Manzanita Lake for morning paddling or fishing. Build a day around the Bumpass Hell boardwalk trail, about 20 minutes further south on the park road.
No camp store means no last-minute supply runs -- pack all your firewood, ice, and food before entering the park. The nearest reliable provisions are in the town of Shingletown, roughly 30 minutes from the northwest entrance. Bring extra tarps and layers; even summer nights at this elevation drop into the 30s and 40s.
