Hike to Kings Creek Falls
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The stone staircase section is narrow, uneven, and slick when wet from spray. Trekking poles help significantly on the climb back up, and proper footwear with grip is non-negotiable here.
Snow lingers on this trail well into late June and sometimes July at this elevation. If you're hiking early season, check conditions at the visitor center first — the trail can be impassable or dangerously icy without traction devices.
You're starting above 7,200 feet. If you drove up from the valley that morning, the altitude can sneak up on you during the steep return climb. Take it slower than you think you need to.

Pro Tips
Take the Upper Cascades route down and return via the Cascades Foot Trail — the park designed it as a one-way loop for good reason. Going down the stone staircase is harder on your knees than climbing up it.
Arrive before 10 AM on summer weekends. The small trailhead parking lot fills fast, and the park highway sees heavy traffic through July and August. Weekday mornings are a different world entirely.
The viewing platform at the base of the falls catches heavy mist — bring a microfiber cloth if you're shooting photos, and keep your phone in a zip-lock between shots. The mist is relentless and beautiful.
