Brooklyn Mine Trail
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
Mine ruins are structurally unsound — admire from a safe distance and never enter any openings or tunnels. Collapses happen without warning.
The trail is not well-marked in all sections. Download an offline map before you go, because cell service in the gorge is unreliable at best.
Trail Details
- 1
Start early on summer mornings — the canopy provides shade, but the return climb gets sticky once humidity peaks after noon.
- 2
Wear boots with ankle support rather than trail runners. The rocky sections near the mine ruins are uneven, and loose stones like to roll underfoot.
- 3
Spend time poking around the coke oven ruins at the turnaround point — most hikers snap a quick photo and leave, but the stone structures are remarkably intact and worth a slow, careful exploration.
