Goodell Creek Campground
The Quick Take
Goodell Creek is the kind of campground that makes you feel like you stumbled into something special. Tucked under old-growth forest right on the Skagit River, it has fewer than twenty sites, which means it stays quiet even when the rest of the North Cascades corridor fills up. The trade-off is real: vault toilets only, no showers, no hookups, and no camp store anywhere nearby. But what you get in return is a riverside setting with genuine forest canopy, a raft and kayak launch practically at your doorstep, and some of the best steelhead and salmon fishing access in the park. Winter campers can roll in without a reservation, though you will be hauling your own water and packing out trash. This is the pick for paddlers, anglers, and anyone who would rather listen to a river than a generator.

Pro Tips
Summer reservations open six months out but also seven days in advance, so check for last-minute cancellations midweek -- Sunday evening is your best window for snagging a dropped site during peak season.
The Skagit River raft and kayak launch is steps from camp, making this the only practical base camp if you are planning a float trip. Bring your own gear or arrange a shuttle through outfitters in Marblemount, thirteen miles west.
Firewood collecting is banned here, and there is no camp store for miles. Buy bundled firewood in Marblemount before you drive in, or plan on cooking exclusively on a camp stove. Also bring a bear canister or plan to use the food lockers -- this is serious black bear country.
