The Quick Take

Graves Creek is where you go when you want the Quinault Rain Forest to yourself. Tucked at the end of a narrow gravel road past Lake Quinault, this small first-come, first-served campground sits along a clear stream beneath a canopy of old-growth Sitka spruce and western red cedar so dense it feels like permanent twilight. There are no showers, no flush toilets, no potable water, and absolutely no cell service — just thirty sites, a creek, and some of the quietest nights on the Olympic Peninsula. The trade-off for giving up every modern convenience is genuine seclusion in one of the few temperate rainforests on Earth. This is the campground for experienced campers who want to wake up, unzip their tent, and immediately be standing in wilderness. If you need hookups or a camp store, Kalaloch is an hour away on the coast. If you need silence, stay right here.

Pro Tips

Camping Tip

Graves Creek is first-come, first-served year-round with no reservations, so arrive by early afternoon on summer weekends. Midweek in June or September is your best bet for snagging a site without stress — the campground rarely fills on weekdays even in peak season.

Camping Tip

The Graves Creek Trailhead is right at the campground, giving you direct access to the Enchanted Valley trail — one of the most spectacular backcountry hikes in Olympic. Even a few miles in rewards you with massive old-growth trees and elk sightings. Pick up a wilderness permit at the ranger station if you plan to go overnight.

Camping Tip

Bring every drop of water you need — there is no potable water here. A quality water filter for the creek is a smart backup. Pack bear canisters or use the provided food lockers religiously; the Quinault valley has active black bears that know exactly what a cooler smells like.
