Heart O' the Hills Campground
The Quick Take
Heart O' the Hills is the campground you pick when Hurricane Ridge is the main event. Tucked into old-growth forest just a few miles up the ridge road from Port Angeles, it puts you closer to the alpine meadows and panoramic views than any other frontcountry camp in Olympic. The trade-off is real, though: no flush toilets, no showers, no dump station, and a 21-foot RV limit that effectively filters out the big rigs. What you get instead is a genuine forest canopy overhead, summer ranger programs at the amphitheater, and the kind of quiet that disappears the moment a generator kicks on — which it won't here, since there are no electrical hookups. With nearly a hundred sites and no reservations accepted, it rewards the early arrivals and punishes the optimists who roll in at 3 PM on a July Saturday. Choose this one if you want quick access to Hurricane Ridge without the hour-long morning commute from the coast.

Pro Tips
This is first-come, first-served only — arrive before noon in summer, or better yet, snag a site on a weekday. Thursday arrivals set you up for the whole weekend without the Friday land rush.
You are ten minutes from the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center, which means sunrise trips up top are trivially easy. Most campers at Kalaloch or Hoh have to budget ninety minutes each way for the same views.
No camp store means no forgotten-item bailouts. Stock up in Port Angeles on the way in — the last grocery options disappear once you turn off Highway 101 onto Hurricane Ridge Road. Bring extra firewood too; what is sold at the campground goes fast in peak season.
