The Quick Take

Hoh Campground sits at the end of the road — literally — deep inside one of the few temperate rainforests in North America. The canopy here is so thick with bigleaf maples draped in club moss that midday feels like permanent dusk, and the air carries a dampness you can almost chew. Sites along the Hoh River are the prize, offering the sound of glacial meltwater over stone as your ambient soundtrack. The trade-off is real: no showers, no flush toilets, no cell service, and an RV length cap that keeps the big rigs out. But that's the point. This is a campground for people who want to fall asleep under old-growth Sitka spruce, not scroll their phones. If you're planning to hike the Hoh River Trail toward Blue Glacier, this is your basecamp — and even if you're not, the Hall of Mosses loop alone justifies the drive. Choose Hoh if atmosphere matters more to you than amenities.

Pro Tips

Camping Tip

Summer reservations fill fast, but shoulder season — October through May — is first-come, first-served and rarely full. The rainforest is arguably more dramatic in fall and winter when rainfall peaks and the moss practically glows. Arrive by early afternoon on a Friday to snag a riverside site.

Camping Tip

The Hall of Mosses Trail and Spruce Nature Trail both start from the campground area and are under two miles round trip. Hit Hall of Mosses before 9 AM to beat the day-trippers who drive in from the coast — you'll have the cathedral-like grove nearly to yourself.

Camping Tip

Pack rain gear even in July — this is a rainforest averaging over twelve feet of precipitation a year. Firewood is available on-site, but bringing your own dry kindling is smart insurance. Use the food lockers religiously; the Roosevelt elk that wander through camp are charming, but raccoons here are bold professionals.
