What to Expect

This is about as short as a trail gets — a paved loop you can walk in the time it takes to finish a granola bar. But don't write it off. The Mini Trail sits right outside the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center, which means you're immediately swallowed by one of the most spectacular temperate rainforests on the planet. Massive Sitka spruces draped in club moss tower overhead, every surface carpeted in an almost absurd shade of green. The paved surface makes it accessible for strollers and anyone who wants a taste of the Hoh without committing to the longer Hall of Mosses loop. It's a sensory appetizer — the damp air, the cathedral light filtering through the canopy, the silence broken only by winter wrens. Perfect for families with very young kids, anyone stretching their legs after the long drive in, or photographers who want that iconic dripping-moss shot without breaking a sweat.

Pro Tips

Trail Tip

Pair this with the Hall of Mosses Trail (0.8 miles) right next door — together they make a satisfying hour in the rainforest without any real exertion.

Trail Tip

Arrive before 10 AM in summer to snag parking at the Hoh Visitor Center lot, which fills early and has no overflow option beyond backing up the road.

Trail Tip

Overcast days actually produce the best photos here — direct sunlight creates harsh contrast through the canopy, while cloudy skies make the greens pop and keep the moss from looking washed out.
