Aspenglen Campground
The Quick Take
Aspenglen is Rocky Mountain's best-kept secret among its three main campgrounds, and the smallest by a wide margin. Tucked just inside the Fall River entrance on the park's quieter west-approach side, it trades the marquee mountain views of Moraine Park for something harder to find: genuine seclusion in a dense aspen and pine canopy. With just over fifty sites, the campground feels intimate in a way that the park's larger options simply cannot. You will not find flush toilets, showers, or a camp store here — this is vault-toilet territory with potable water and bear lockers. The trade-off is worth it. Morning light filtering through the aspens, elk browsing through camp at dusk, and noticeably fewer neighbors make Aspenglen the right call for campers who want to actually sleep in Rocky Mountain rather than just park in it. Choose this one if you value atmosphere over amenities.

Pro Tips
Aspenglen fills fast but not as brutally as Moraine Park. Reservations open on recreation.gov six months in advance on a rolling window — set a calendar reminder and book at 10 AM Eastern the day your dates open. Midweek arrivals in late June or September give you the best odds if your first choice sells out.
The Fall River entrance puts you minutes from Old Fall River Road, the park's original one-way dirt road up to Alpine Visitor Center. Most visitors take Trail Ridge Road and skip it entirely. Drive it early morning for a crowd-free alpine experience, then loop back down Trail Ridge for the full circuit before lunch.
No camp store means no forgotten-item bailouts — pack everything before you arrive. The nearest grocery run is Estes Park, about fifteen minutes back out the entrance. Bring your own firewood too; bundles are sold at the campground but supply can be spotty. And stash absolutely everything scented in the bear lockers — the wildlife here is not shy.
