Hope Camp and Ridgeview Trail
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
There is zero shade on the upper ridgeline section — in anything warmer than 80 degrees, the exposed climb can turn uncomfortable fast. Summer hiking here is genuinely dangerous without early morning timing and serious water.
Watch your footing on the rocky descent back down, especially if you're distracted by the views. Loose gravel on hardpack makes for slippery spots that catch people off guard on short trails.

Pro Tips
Start from the Douglas Spring Trailhead on the east side of the park and connect via the signed junction — the Hope Camp spur is easy to miss if you're not watching for it, so keep your eyes on trail markers after the first half mile.
Hit this trail in March or early April for peak wildflower displays on the south-facing slopes — the poppies and brittlebush can be spectacular in a good rain year.
The Box Canyon overlook at the ridgeline makes for outstanding golden-hour photography — afternoon light rakes across the canyon walls and turns the saguaros into silhouettes worth framing.
