Rose River Falls
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The rocks near the base of the falls are perpetually slick with spray and algae. Multiple hikers have taken nasty falls trying to scramble closer for photos — stay on the established viewpoint unless you have sticky-soled shoes and good balance.
Several creek crossings on the circuit can become shin-deep after heavy rain. Check recent precipitation before heading out, and bring trekking poles if storms have rolled through in the past 48 hours.

Pro Tips
Hike the loop counterclockwise by starting down the fire road — you'll hit the falls first while your legs are fresh and save the prettier creekside trail for the climb back, which makes the uphill feel shorter.
The parking area at Fishers Gap fills by 10 AM on summer weekends. Arrive before 9 or start after 3 PM — the late afternoon light filtering through the canopy is worth the trade-off.
There's a second, smaller cascade about a quarter mile below the main falls that most hikers walk right past. Follow the trail just beyond the primary viewpoint and look left — it's a quieter spot with better options for sitting streamside.
