South River Falls Observation Point
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
The stone-walled observation point can be slick when wet — stay behind the wall and keep children close. The drop beyond it is real.
The stream crossing runs higher and faster after storms. If recent rain has been heavy, test your footing carefully before committing.

Pro Tips
Hit this trail in the morning — the observation point faces east, so you'll get the best light on the falls before midday. By afternoon, the gorge is in shadow and the photos flatten out.
The stream crossing can be slippery after rain. Trekking poles help on the return climb too, which gains all its elevation in about a mile and feels harder than the walk down prepared you for.
If the observation point leaves you wanting more, a spur trail continues down to the base of the falls — but that adds significant elevation loss you'll have to claw back, turning a pleasant morning hike into a genuine workout.
