Pebble Creek Campground
The Quick Take
IMPORTANT: Pebble Creek Campground is currently closed and will remain so for the foreseeable future following devastating flood damage in 2022. Before the closure, this was Yellowstone's most remote drive-in campground -- a tiny, 27-site retreat tucked into the park's quiet northeast corner along the road to Cooke City. With no generators allowed, no cell service, and nothing resembling a camp store for miles, Pebble Creek was the kind of place where you could hear elk bugling at dusk and wolves howling before dawn. The Lamar Valley, widely considered the best wildlife watching corridor in North America, sat just down the road. If and when Pebble Creek reopens as part of the Northeast Entrance Road rehabilitation, it will be worth the wait. This was a campground for people who came to Yellowstone for the wildness, not the geysers.

Pro Tips
Check the NPS Yellowstone campground status page regularly -- when Pebble Creek eventually reopens, demand will be intense given how long it has been offline. Being among the first to know gives you a real booking advantage.
If you were planning a Pebble Creek trip, your best alternative for that northeast corner experience is Slough Creek Campground, which shares the same no-generator, deep-wilderness character and sits along the Lamar Valley wildlife corridor.
When Pebble Creek does reopen, pack everything you need before arriving. The nearest supplies are in Cooke City, a small gateway town with limited options. Bring extra firewood, full water containers, and enough food for your entire stay plus one extra day.
