Bridalveil Creek Campground
The Quick Take
Bridalveil Creek is Yosemite's best-kept secret for campers who want the park without the circus. Perched at over seven thousand feet along Glacier Point Road, it trades the Valley's granite-walled drama for a quiet red fir forest and noticeably thinner crowds. The trade-off is real: there are no showers, no camp store, no cell service, and the short season means you have roughly a two-month window to snag a spot. But the payoff is proximity to Glacier Point — one of the most jaw-dropping viewpoints in the entire national park system — without fighting for parking at dawn. The campground is large enough that it rarely feels cramped, and the elevation keeps summer nights genuinely cool. Choose this one if you want a Yosemite basecamp that feels more like the backcountry than a parking lot.

Pro Tips
The season here is brutally short — typically mid-July to early September — so set your calendar reminder the moment recreation.gov posts Yosemite's reservation dates. Sites open on a rolling window, and this campground fills fast with people who know the Valley alternatives are a zoo.
Glacier Point is a seven-mile drive east and worth visiting at sunset when day-trippers have cleared out. Pack a headlamp for the walk back to your car — there are no streetlights on Glacier Point Road and the stargazing on the drive back is absurd.
Stock up on everything before you turn onto Glacier Point Road. The nearest camp store is back in Yosemite Valley or Wawona, both a solid 45-minute drive. Bring more firewood than you think you need — nights at this elevation drop into the low forties even in August, and there is nowhere to buy a bundle once you are here.
