Riverside Walk
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
Flash flood danger is real here, especially July through September. If the sky darkens upstream or you hear a low rumble, get to high ground immediately — the Virgin River can rise several feet in minutes. Always check the park's flash flood potential forecast before heading out.
Winter ice turns sections of the paved trail into a skating rink, and the park will close portions without much notice. Microspikes help, but check current conditions at the visitor center before committing to the walk.

Pro Tips
Catch the first shuttle from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center (check seasonal times) — by mid-morning in summer, the crowd at Temple of Sinawava is three-deep at the trailhead and the walk loses its serenity.
If you want to continue into The Narrows from the end of Riverside Walk, bring neoprene socks and trekking poles or rent the full Narrows package from one of the outfitters in Springdale the night before — gear shops run out by 9 AM in peak season.
The best photo spot is about two-thirds of the way in where the canyon walls frame a tight corridor with dappled light — shoot in the late morning when sunlight hits the upper walls and bounces warm tones down to the river.
