Crescent Lake Trail
What to Expect
Safety Advisory
At subalpine elevation, afternoon thunderstorms can roll in fast during July and August. If you hear thunder or see dark clouds building over the peaks, head back immediately — the open meadows offer zero shelter.
Snow can linger on the trail well into June and sometimes early July. Bring microspikes if you're hiking before mid-July, and be prepared to navigate short sections of patchy snow.

Pro Tips
The trailhead access road is rough and unpaved — a high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended, and you should check current road conditions with the ranger station before driving out.
Mosquitoes at the lake can be absolutely brutal from late June through mid-July. Pack a head net and apply repellent before you leave the car, not after you're already swarmed.
Arrive before 10 AM to catch the morning light reflecting off the lake surface — the granite backdrop goes flat and washed out by midday, but early light turns the water an electric turquoise that photographs beautifully.
